Trip to Marrakech to celebrate International Day for Street Children 2012

To celebrate the second International Day for Street Children on 12th April 2012, the MCT team in Taroudannt organised an exciting two-day trip to Marrakech for all of the children at the centre.
Setting off early on Thursday morning, they travelled by bus, drumming, singing and even dancing all the way! The children were taken all over Marrakech – to the Menara Gardens and the El Badi and El Bahia Palaces; through the Grand Souk and Djamaa El Fna square, where the children were captivated by snake charmers and baboons.

On Thursday evening everyone was generously invited to a party organised by Aziz Khalidi, a film maker who is currently producing a documentary about MCT’s work. They were welcomed by a crowd of smiling and enthusiastic children, carrying flags and waving banners, who led the group through winding alleys to the house, where each was greeted with a date, a glass of milk and a rose. The children had a great time – enjoying an evening of both feasting and singing!

Goodbye Khalid, social worker and founding member of MCT!

Image

This week we are sad to announce the departure of Khalid Momad, a core member of MCT’s Moroccan team. He will be moving with his wife to France on March 10th to start their new life together.

Khalid's Farewell Party

Khalid has worked for MCT since it was founded and has worked with many of the families for several years before that. He has made a positive and lasting impression on the lives of the children and will be greatly missed!

This weekend the team organised a surprise party for him to thank him for all the time, energy and passion he has put into his work for the centre. All of the children were invited, as well as all staff and Khalid’s wife and family.

Thank you Khalid, we wish you all the best in the future!

Happy birthday to MCT!

Today is the day of MCT’s 3rd birthday celebration event and major fundraiser! Many friends and supporters of MCT will be joining the team in London tonight for a Gala dinner and live auction. Please join the push to raise funds that will go directly to our Street Children Project in Taroudannt: http://www.moroccanchildrenstrust.org/donate/.

Taroudannt Express

Last Sunday, the MCT team in Taroudannt organised an exciting activity day at the SCP centre based on the TV show ‘Peking Express’. 11 participants were divided into teams of two and three and were sent on an exciting treasure hunt for puzzle pieces. The teams were given clues to find places around the town and then had to complete a series of physical and mental challenges in order to win a piece of their puzzle and collect the clue for the location of their next challenge. The children enjoyed all 14 of their challenges and had a lovely breakfast and lunch with the MCT team. The lucky teams who came in at 1st, 2nd and 3rd with the most puzzle pieces were also awarded wonderful prizes! The children had a fantastic day, learning valuable skills of problem-solving and teamwork and most importantly having fun and laughing a lot! The children are already looking forward to their next activity day!
